Germantown Community Theatre
Physical Theatre for Kids
Jan. 8 - Apr. 2nd Thursdays 9:30-10:30 am
Recommended for 4th - 7th Graders
Imaginations will run wild as students invent their own super-characters in harrowing situations. Each young actor will build two unique and original super characters in conflict. Can your child save the world and avert catastrophe? Maybe they have secret plans to take over the universe. Let them discover their own super-strengths in acting. A showcase performance will be held for parents and friends.
American Theatre
Jan. 8 - Apr. 2nd Thursdays 10:45-11:45 am
Recommended for 8th - 12th Graders
This class will explore two of the most influential plays of American theatre. We will be discussing the themes, characters and motifs of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town and Lorraine Hansberry’s Raisin in the Sun. Students will be reading, acting, and discussing these two plays- both of which will play in the Memphis area this spring. Students are asked to keep a notebook of plays and supporting material.

TEACHER BIOS
Julia Hinson
Julia Hinson is the Director of Education and Outreach here at Germantown Community Theatre. She is a teacher, director, producer and actor in the Memphis area. Julia started the Fun In Theatre Homeschool program last fall after being inspired by her work with the homeschool students involved in the 2006 daytime production of Best Christmas Pageant Ever. As a teacher she teaches workshops in Acting, Improvisation, Comedy, Shakespeare, Mask, Movement and Stage Combat. As a director she most recently directed Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business for Crittenden County Arts and is directing both the daytime and nighttime production of Madeline’s Christmas here at GCT this winter. Julia holds a BFA in Theatre Performance from the University of Memphis.
