Dr. Seuss is on the Loose” taught by Claire Rutkauskus 
March 24th-April 13th, 2012

(Ages 4-8)                                                                   
Saturdays 9:30-11:30 am

Oh the places you'll go in this class exploring Whoville and What Nots. Get lost in the jungle of Nool and take a dip in McElligot's Pool! Students will enjoy creating the fantastic scenery and acting in the beloved Dr. Seuss book Horton Hears a Who. On the last day of class everyone is invited to come see this fun filled showcase put on by the kids.

“Moving to Words” taught by Doug Johnson                          
March 24th-April 13th, 2012

(Ages 8-11)                                                                                                        
Saturdays 12:00-2:00 pm
                                                                            
Do you know how to battle a monster? Could you be the famous Jabberwork? Do you have what it takes to be a great storyteller? Come find out at Germantown Community Theatre while Moving to Words. In this class kids will be taught basic stage movement and ensemble acting. Students will be telling stories and creating new worlds with that help of their friends in this engaging course.

“Makeup Design 101” taught by Jay Deen                                
March 24th-April 13th, 2012

(Ages 10 +)                                                                                                         
Saturdays 2:30-4:30 pm 
                                                                              
Come learn how to turn yourself from 10 years old to 80 years old just by applying makeup! A brief history of the subject and how to apply the basic stage makeup are only a few things you will learn in this exciting class! Students ages 10+ will also have the opportunity to try their hand at special effects makeup among other things. On the last day of class parents will be able to enjoy a brief showcase on the GCT stage.

Teacher Bios

Claire Rutkauskus
Claire Rutkauskus graduated with a BA in theatre from the University of Memphis and has been seen all over town at different theatres. She was most recently on stage at GCT in Godspell. Most recently she stage managed for Steel Magnolias at BPAC. Clair has been a member of Our Own Voice Theatre Troupe for 15 years where she has performed and directed. She also teaches with Playhouse on the Square’s youth programs.

Jay Deen
Jay Deen is a third year MFA Graduate candidate at The University of Memphis with a focus in scenic and make-up design. Recent local credits include Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge and Aesop’s Fable-ous Christmas Tree at Circuit Playhouse; Special Effects Make-up design for Bat Boy, Spring 2010 for which he won an Ostrander award, Scenic Design for The Comedy of Errors, Fall 2010 and Special Effects Make-up design for the opera Idomeneo all at The University of Memphis. Other credits include Scenic Design for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at The Wilson Center’s Summer Musical Theatre Experience and Two Daysat Florida State College both in Jacksonville, FL. He has also been Director of the Teen Summer Musical Workshop and musical director for The Producers at Orange Park Community Theatre in Orange Park, FL.  “If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand!”

Doug Johnson
Doug Johnson is an actor, mask-maker, stilt-walker, juggler, and clown. He has a BFA in theatre from the University of Memphis where he also assisted in mask making and acting classes.  Doug now teaches classes in Memphis and at Germantown Community Theatre as well as construct masks which he sells online.  He also walks on stilts for events in the area, most notably the Memphis Children’s Theatre Festival.  Previous acting credits include The Little Prince, Cyrano, As You Like It and, Much Ado About Nothing.  This is Doug’s first show for which he has made the masks that are onstage.
